Ciclo de Cinema - Brazil Portugal Film Series Trade Missions, Seminars and Other Events Rio de Janeiro- Brazil Brazil Hosts Pipeline Exhibition and Conference The Canadian Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro is organizing a Canadian pavilion at the 2009 Rio Pipeline Conference and Exhibition, the largest pipeline event in Brazil. This event will bring together local and international professionals and executives who are looking for state of the-art technologies and management practices in this area. The conference program will include panels, talks, technical sessions and mini-courses on relevant topics. The concurrently held exhibition allows greater interaction between delegates, visitors and companies active in the pipeline sector. The main objective of the event is to share technological advances, experiences and to present important ongoing pipeline projects. It also aims to integrate companies from different segments of the pipeline industry like operations, construction, engineering, research and development, training and equipment suppliers. The Event is the largest mining show in Brazil and the ideal place to meet buyers, potential agents and partners, and get a first-hand appreciation of the size of the market and competition. In 2007, Exposibram attracted 45,000 visitors in to the exhibition, 470 exhibitors from 22 countries and over 1,500 delegates to the mining congress. There will be a Canadian pavilion and networking event at Exposibram 2009, Brazil's largest and most important mining industry event. Mario Silva, MP for Davenport, Ambassador Paulo Cordeiro de Andrade Pinto of Brazil to Canada and Honorary Chairman of the BCCC Board, were among the guest speakers who participated in a unique event that brought together Government and Canadian companies with interests in Brazil. "We want Canada to believe more in Brazil. We all know that this relationship is already very positive, just look at the examples of Brookfield Asset Management, Vale Inco. Brazil has a middle class the size of Spain and France combined and if we make this class reach the GDP of Chile we will be three times bigger. Many Canadians would likely be surprised to discover that Brazil is a country with a population of almost two hundred million people, the sixth largest in the world. Geographically, Brazil occupies almost half the total size of the South American continent. It is a country of 26 states and 5,564 municipalities where 80% of residents are urban dwellers. Brazil 's younger population will be a major force in the world and indeed there were 17,000 students from that country who studied in Canada last year. For the full story, click here IndyCar Series Helps Fashion Industry of Brazil in Canada The partnership of Apex-Brazil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, which became the official Energy and Trade Partner of the IndyCar Series may open new doors to the fashion industry of Brazil in Toronto. One focus of the strategy of this partnership with Apex and IndyCar series was to expose products and services from Brazil interested in doing business with Canada. Among the guests who accompanied the mission of Apex, was Antonin Bartos Filho, Director of Abest – the Brazilian Designers' Association. "This is the first time I come to Canada. I came to get to know the market and see how we can carry out a marketing plan to meet the Canadian market. From what I’ve learned so far here in Toronto, there are excellent opportunities to invest based on the differential fashion that Brazil has to offer", said Bartos Filho. For the full story, click here Brazil Feed Lot Industry More Cautious About Expansion Brazil is planning to increase the number of cattle in feed lots by 4.6% which would be equivalent to a total of 1.673.500 heads, according to Beef Point, a Brazilian portal linked to the meat industry. The number is the result of a survey among the top 50 Brazilian companies involved in feed lots and which last year fattened 1.599.465 cattle, which represented a leap of 27% over 2007 but below the 34.5% of 2006. The survey showed some companies are not planning to increase the number of cattle in feed lots while others are thinking in reducing them. For the full story, click here Brazilian Businesspeople May Invest in Chicken Farming in Mozambique Brazilian businesspeople may invest in industrial chicken production in Mozambique in order to meet domestic demand and supply the regional and international market at competitive prices, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported. With significant investment in the area of technology, Brazil in the last few years has become a benchmark in the world for production and export of chicken, and thus is believed that its experience could help to reduce problems in the market supply at competitive prices that is faced in Mozambique, the paper said. Average monthly production of chicken meat in Mozambique is estimated at around 4,000 tonnes, as compared to an average monthly consumption of around 5,000 tonnes.
