Brazil Hosts Pipeline Exhibition and Conference

The Canadian Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro is organizing a Canadian pavilion at the 2009 Rio Pipeline Conference and Exhibition, the largest pipeline event in Brazil.

This event will bring together local and international professionals and executives who are looking for state of the-art technologies and management practices in this area.

The conference program will include panels, talks, technical sessions and mini-courses on relevant topics. The concurrently held exhibition allows greater interaction between delegates, visitors and companies active in the pipeline sector.

The main objective of the event is to share technological advances, experiences and to present important ongoing pipeline projects. It also aims to integrate companies from different segments of the pipeline industry like operations, construction, engineering, research and development, training and equipment suppliers.

The last event attracted some 1,400 delegates from 29 countries, 120 exhibitors and 3,200 visitors.

EXPOSIBRAM 2009 and The 13th Brazilian Mining Congress

Exposibram 2009 – Brazil’s International Mining Exhibition, will be held simultaneously with the 13th Brazilian Mining Congress in Belo Horizonte in the State of Minas Gerais on September 21-24, 2009.

The Event is the largest mining show in Brazil and the ideal place to meet buyers, potential agents and partners, and get a first-hand appreciation of the size of the market and competition.

In 2007, Exposibram attracted 45,000 visitors in to the exhibition, 470 exhibitors from 22 countries and over 1,500 delegates to the mining congress.

There will be a Canadian pavilion and networking event at Exposibram 2009, Brazil's largest and most important mining industry event. Over 400 local and international service, equipment and exploration companies and over 30,000 delegates are expected this year.

Brazil Prepares to Return UK Trash
( Reuters )

Brazil will send 89 shipping containers of garbage, rotting and maggot-infested, back to Britain and has issued $419,000 in fines to the three Brazilian companies that imported it, the government said on Monday.

Around 1,600 tons of waste, including toilet seats, dirty diapers, used syringes and old TVs and computers, are lying in the containers at two southern ports after being sent from Britain falsely declared as a cargo of plastics.

Brazil Real Rises to 9-Month High on Earnings, Economic Outlook

Brazil ’s real climbed to the highest in more than nine months as stronger-than-estimated corporate earnings, rising equities and higher metal prices bolstered the outlook for Latin America’s largest economy.

The real advanced for a seventh straight day, gaining 1.4 percent to 1.8987 per U.S. dollar at 5:01 p.m. New York time, from 1.9261 on July 17. It earlier touched 1.8966 per dollar, the strongest since Oct. 1. Today’s rise extended the real’s gain this year to 22 percent, the best performance against the dollar among the 16 most-traded currencies tracked by Bloomberg.

Brazilian Economy Giving Signs the Worst of Recession is Over

Brazil ’s currency Real had its biggest weekly gain in almost two months on optimism the worst of the global recession is over. The Real climbed 3.6% this week, the most since the period ended May 22 rising 0.3% to 1.9261 per US dollar on Friday. So far this year the Real has strengthened 20%.

Retail sales in Brazil also rose more than analysts expected in May, reinforcing speculation that consumer demand is driving the rebound in Latinamerica’s biggest economy. Sales rose 4 in May from the same month a year earlier, compared with a revised 7.1% gain in April, according to the national statistics agency IBGE

Brazil's Odebrecht Strikes Oil on the Angolan Coast

The oil and gas division of construction company Odebrecht has announced an oil discovery on the Angolan coast, in a prospection operated by Maersk Oil (with 50 percent), newspaper Estado de São Paulo reported.

It is light oil, of good quality, which was found at a depth of 4,725 metres, 315 kilometres of the Luanda coast," the company's chairman, Miguel Gradin told the Brazilian newspaper.

Vale Grants Iron Ore Discounts to Two New Buyers- Brazil

Brazilian miner Vale has continued to close iron ore benchmark price negotiations and on Monday reported that it has sealed a contract with Italian steelmaker Lucchini for a 28.2% discount in fines and a 48.3% reduction for pellets.

The discount percentages are the same ones granted last week to Italian steel producer Ilva, and previously to Trinidad & Tobago's Nu-Iron, and Japanese and South Korean buyers.
